Resolution Copper Mining Teams with Audubon Arizona to Protect Arizona's Winged Treasures

Hooded Oriole

They represent the colors of the rainbow and the unparalleled natural beauty of Arizona. They are blue peach-faced lovebirds, green-tailed towhees, purple martins, red-naped sapsuckers and yellow-rumped warblers. Resolution Copper Mining is partnering with Audubon Arizona to protect our state's unique bird species.

An initial two-year grant from Resolution Copper helped Audubon Arizona maintain and expand its Important Bird Area program for the Lower San Pedro River, support economic development and ecotourism initiatives about birding, and conduct environmental educational awareness programs.

A new two-year grant provided by the Rio Tinto Partnership Action Fund will fund the analysis of biological and ecological data and support development of site conservation plans for the San Pedro River corridor and the upper Queen Creek and Devils Canyon Watersheds of the Gila River. Additional activities will include development of a conservation management plan for the protection and management of avian habitats and biological diversity along with funding for bird conservation volunteer training at Boyce Thompson Arboretum.
