Emphasis on Education

Resolution Copper's extended project timeline – production is anticipated to begin in 2020 – means the majority of our future workforce is currently of elementary-school age. Developing a workforce with the scientific, technological, engineering and math expertise we require is key to our business success. To prepare a qualified talent pool of potential employees, we collaborate extensively with Arizona's learning institutions from elementary through post-secondary schooling. We emphasize education through scholarships, internships and other capacity-building programs.

The budget available to fund our educational programs can vary from year to year, dependant upon other business needs. For more information on any of the programs listed below, please email info@resolutioncopper.com.

Resolution Copper Scholarship Program

2010 marks the eighth year of the Resolution Copper Scholarship program which benefits students attending an Arizona university, community college or business/trade school. To date, we have awarded more than $240,000 in scholarships, and 14 Resolution Copper Scholarship recipients are currently attending Arizona universities. The four-year, $6,000 renewable grants are provided to students who concentrate on math, science, engineering or business. A school-appointed committee makes a preliminary selection of recipients, with final selection made by a committee of Resolution Copper staff. The program includes high schools in Apache Junction, Globe, Miami, Hayden/Winkelman, Kearny, Florence, San Carlos and Superior. Click here to see the list of 2009 recipients.

Resolution Copper Summer Intern Program

Our company also aids student development through educational experiences beyond the classroom. One popular example is the Resolution Copper Summer Intern program. Scholarship recipients can apply for an opportunity to work at the Resolution Copper Superior headquarters during the summer months. They gain a real-world sense of what it takes to work within a modern mining organization and also deepen their understanding of how a successful business is run. Once their internship is complete, these young people return to their college studies in academic disciplines that include chemical engineering, mining engineering, animal sciences, applied science in psychology, and anthropology.

Many Resolution Copper interns return to the program for successive summers, and it is our hope that their education, interests and skills development will lead them to become part of our future workforce.

Anytown Camp

Resolution Copper is also proud to provide financial support to students who attend Anytown Camp, developed and run by Anytown Arizona, a non-profit organization. The annual summer camp helps prepare young people for effective leadership in their communities and teaches them a range of valuable life skills.

Resolution Copper's scholarships pay for camp tuition, room and board, and transportation to and from the camp. Scholarship winners are selected by local community leaders.

EDUCATION PARTNERS

Other organizations have joined Resolution Copper to enhance the Copper Triangle's education initiatives. Working with these partners, our company generates student interest and participation in the fields of math and science. Academic partners include Arizona State University, University of Arizona, and school districts in the Copper Triangle. Resolution Copper is also exploring partnership opportunities with local community colleges and trade schools.
