Resolution Copper Earns ISO 14001:2004 Certification

After a significant company-wide effort, in November 2007 Resolution Copper earned ISO 14001:2004 certification of its Environmental Management System (EMS) from DNV, an internationally recognized auditing firm. Our EMS includes the plans, policies and procedures used to manage and continually improve our approach to the environment.

Certification is only the first step, since regular audits are conducted to ensure that we remain in compliance with the international standard and that our focus is to continually improve our approach to the environment.

In addition to internal audits, we have chosen to be audited every six months by an external party. In February we underwent our first surveillance audit of the EMS and supporting processes. The audit included a document review and one-on-one interviews with contractors and employees to test individual knowledge and application of the company’s Health, Safety and Environmental policy and other EMS policies and procedures. There were no major findings and two minor nonconformities identified in the area of contractor management. The expectation is that any minor nonconformity will have been effectively resolved before the next surveillance audit. The next audit is scheduled for August 2008.

Ongoing ISO 14001:2004 Level I and Level II training provides employees and contractors with an increasingly detailed understanding of the company’s EMS and relevant environmental procedures that affect their jobs.

The company is also taking important steps to reduce, reuse, recycle and efficiently use natural resources to help meet our resource conservation and pollution reduction goals, as well as our stated environmental targets for 2008.
