2007 Sustainable Development Report


Environmental Stewardship | Chapter Contents

 

Care and concern for the environment are at the center of all Resolution Copper Mining operational projects and plans.

Major areas of focus during 2007, which are detailed in this section:

• Achieve ISO 14001:2004 certification
• Continue rehabilitation of sites impacted by previous mining operations
• Tailings management – further reduce potential deposition locations and establish an initial tailings deposition site. (Tailings are materials rejected from a mill after valuable minerals have been recovered.)
• Water management – dewatering the legacy mine site and planning for water needed once mining operations begin
• Progress in research and development of RCM’s Environmental
Impact Study (EIS)
• Environmental partnerships – work with other organizations to benefit land management and biodiversity
• Land exchange legislation – take action to support progress through Congress
