2007 Sustainable Development Report

Economic Development | Chapter Contents

Resolution Copper Mining invests in the community and region to promote long-term economic development, to forge ties with key stakeholders and contribute to an economic infrastructure that will support and benefit our business.

2007 Highlights

• Wages and salaries totaled $6.2 million, a 47 percent increase over 2006 (not including residual contributions to the local economy through indirect job creation).

• Materials, goods and services totaled $91.59 million. Of this amount, $7.95 million was spent in Superior and surrounding areas, a year-to-year decrease of 25 percent. This drop in local spending was due primarily to preparatory work for the shaft project that involved non-local workers from Cementation Canada. Nevertheless, a significant aspect of our contract with Cementation is an emphasis on local hiring, and by year-end 2007, 28 percent of Cementation personnel onsite were local.

• Community contributions totaled $173,000, a 20 percent increase over the previous year.
