Philanthropy and Community Investment

Expenditures on philanthropy and partnerships totaled $173,000 in 2007.

Our goal is to invest in the long-term growth and success of our host communities in ways that help them build needed capacity to increase their economic profile. We also partner with environmental, educational, regional and state organizations on programs that affect social well-being, environmental stewardship and economic progress throughout the region and the state of Arizona. Our aim is to direct both our financial and human resources in areas our stakeholders have identified as important, where there are pressing needs and where we can have a meaningful impact.

Philanthropic contributions took the form of programs, projects, donations and in-kind support in three main areas of focus: community development and infrastructure, the environment, and educational scholarships and partnerships. Also included in this total was $6,800 of in-kind donations in the form of skills and goods. The company will introduce a revised strategic partnership and philanthropic program in 2008 to ensure that both Resolution Copper Mining and the communities it serves derive maximum benefit from deployed resources.

Resolution Copper Mining also continues to support a collaborative approach to problem-solving by engaging in public-private partnerships. This includes work with Arizona State University, Arizona Trail Association, Audubon Arizona, Arizona Department of Commerce, Boyce Thompson Arboretum, The Nature Conservancy and the University of Arizona.

The company’s corporate support was complemented by our employees’ involvement. In 2007, employees volunteered their time to various Copper Triangle organizations including the Superior Substance-Abuse Coalition and numerous economic development committees, supported development of the Arizona Trail, and volunteered outside of work to support organizations including the Boy Scouts.
