2007 Sustainable Development Report
Business Profile | Chapter Contents
Government Affairs
Resolution Copper Mining employs a number of
bipartisan lobbyists to advocate on our behalf. The most
pressing issue in 2007 was to advance a crucial piece of
land exchange legislation through the US Congress, titled
the Southeast Arizona Land Exchange and Conservation Act.
The bill’s passage is essential to the next phase of our mine
development.
Resolution Copper Mining personnel and company lobbyists
engage regularly with appointed and elected officials at the
local, state and federal levels to ensure they are informed of
our project status and to discuss important industry issues.
The Rio Tinto America Political Action Committee (PAC) is a
formal way for employees to direct funds to candidates that
support issues affecting our business. PAC participation is
voluntary. Our lobbyists and the company PAC file disclosure
reports with the appropriate regulators. Both our lobbying
efforts and PAC involvement are guided by Rio Tinto’s
business philosophy, detailed in The way we work.
